Monjayaki is eaten off of the electric grill it's cooked on using small spatulas. While eating the monjayaki, the mass cooking in the middle of the electric grill still semi-liquid, so the spatulas are used to pull a small portion (about a spoonful) away from the main mass and then are used to press the small portion down onto the electric grill so that it becomes more cooked. Finally, the spatula is used like a spoon to eat the small cooked piece of monjayaki off of the electric grill. As the large portion monjayaki cooks, the flavor changes, so the taste when you begin eating has changed by the time you finish.
