Sweet and Savory German Potato Salad


Okonomiyaki potato salad 

(Adapted from Better Homes and Gardens: New Cookbook, 10th Edition)

Servings: 4-6


4 large potatoes

4 tablespoons of Otafuku Original Sauce

4 tablespoons of sugar

3-4 tablespoons of flour

1 teaspoon of celery seed

3 teaspoons of salt

½ teaspoon of pepper

1 ½ - 2 cups of water

1 cup of vinegar (for this recipe, we used Otafuku namasu vinegar)

8 slices of bacon or pork belly

1 ½ - 2 cups of onion, chopped



In a large pot, boil potatoes until soft. Drain and set aside. Cook bacon until crispy; remove and add chopped onions to bacon grease. Sauté onions until soft and fragrant. Add dry spices and Otafuku Original Sauce and stir, then add water and vinegar. Cook until sauce thickens. When potatoes are cool enough to touch, cut into quarter slices. Crumble bacon and add to sauce along with potatoes and stir until thoroughly coated.
